2005 is another unusual year with the vineyard still at less than 50% bloom at the end of June, when another 1" of rain fell. An additional 3.5 acres were planted at the end of June. One acre of three Dijon Syrah clones and two and a half more acres of Dijon Pinot Noir clones. We harvested on 19, 23 and 24 September. On the 19th, the two newest blocks (first vintage) were harvested as they ripened a full week ahead of the older blocks. The sugar was quite high at 27-28 Brix to get adequate ripening, with pHs of 3.2 and 3.3 and TA's of 0,90 and 0.85. The older blocks were harvested 4-5 days later at a somewhat lower Brix around 24.0, pH of 3.3 and TA of 0.93. A total of 11.6 tons were harvested with slightly higher degree-days (from bud-break to harvest) than the previous two years. |
