2007 brought a killer frost on the nights of 17-18 April that decimated about two acres in low lying areas of the vineyard. Two months later some of the plants are showing life, but some are completely killed. In those low areas, temperatures down to 25 degrees Fahrenheit were recorded, the lowest to date at this location. Even the air movement fan we deploy can not counteract that much of a dip after the vines have emerged from dormancy. Other than those two nights, the weather has been gorgeous all spring and into summer with warm, but not hot temperatures. Bloom and fruit set are a couple weeks earlier than normal and look excellent at this time (post-bloom). However, there was little Winter rain, so we began irrigation in April. |
